The tutorial teaches you how to easily center text and any layer in After Effects.
Center Text in Layer
To begin, we’ll want to center the text in the text layer. Then we’ll center the text layer itself in the composition.
Find the Paragraph panel. If you do not see it, go under the Window menu and choose Paragraph. Next click Center Text in the Paragraph panel. This icon looks and functions just like you would expect Word, Outlook, or Gmail to work.

How to Align Any Layer to the Center
Now that the text is centered in the layer itself we need to center the layer in the composition in After Effects. This next part can be used for really any element in After Effects. It’s not limited to just text layers. If you have a clip, solid, image, etc., they all can be centered easily doing this next step.
Find the Align panel. If you can’t see it, go under Window and choose Align. With the text layer selected, click the Align Horizontally button. Then click the Align Vertically button. The order doesn’t matter — just click both!
If you’ve read and watched this tutorial and you still can’t figure it out, please leave a comment and I’ll do what I can to help troubleshoot it. But if you can now center text in After Effects, I hope you stick around and check out some of the other After Effects tutorials on my website or consider signing up to get notified about new blog posts and happenings around EVF.
