The tutorial teaches you how to import a PSD with layers in After Effects while keeping all of it’s layers intact. When you import a PSD with layers in After Effects you can manipulate each individual layer in AE instead of running back and forth into Photoshop.
Import Options for a PSD with Layers in After Effects
Open the Import window in After Effects. You can do this a few ways. One simple way is to double-click an empty space in the Project panel. Now select the PSD file you want to import. Then click Open.
A new box should pop up when you do this. Under the Import Kind: dropdown, change this to Composition. Then click OK.
When you do this a new composition is created in After Effects that is the name of the PSD file you imported in. The comp has all the layers that are in the PSD file. And in the Project panel you’ll notice a new folder named the name of the PSD file plus the word “Layers” after it. Each of the layers in the PSD file is now now in this folder.
If you’ve read and watched this tutorial and you still can’t figure it out, please leave a comment and I’ll do what I can to help troubleshoot it. But if you can now import a PSD with layers into After Effects, I hope you stick around and check out some of the other After Effects tutorials on my website or consider signing up to get notified about new blog posts and happenings around EVF.
